Title Description Convenors
Reconstruction of East Asian Blocks in Pangea Controversy has long surrounded configurations of East Asian blocks in Pangea, with most models assuming that major blocks in East Asia had never been part of Pangea’s main body before its breakup, whereas others argue that the East Asian blocks had amalgamated and joined in Pangea before its final breakup. To resolve the controversy, researchers have recently carried out extensive geological and paleomagnetic investigations on major East Asian blocks and their suturing belts, and produced large amounts of new data and competing interpretations. This session invites contributions that highlight these advancements in order to answer where, when and how East Asian blocks were assembled and whether or not they had become part of Pangea.
