Title Description Convenors
Geoscience Education: technology & training the next generation of geoscientists The traditional lecture-style pedagogy is often not the most effective at attracting and engaging students to the geosciences. However this method is the most common, especially in high-enrollment (100+ students) introductory courses. In recent years it has become common practice is to integrate technology in the classroom by using digital slide presentations, animations, clickers, the Internet, and videos in lectures. However, it has been demonstrated that it is not the technology that matters for engagement in the lecture hall: it is the pedagogy. This session proposes to showcase effective pedagogical methods that utilize technology in the classroom in creative and innovative ways, especially those methods that accommodate high-enrollment classes, minorities, non-traditional and physically challenged students.
