Transatlantic Sedimentology (sponsored by IAS and SEPM)
Precambrian and Palaeozoic geology at either side of the S Atlantic prior to the drifting apart of both continents; response to rifting at either side of the S Atlantic; rift shoulders, topographic response; black shales from the early rifting stages (now covered by evaporites); response along the African and S American margins to OAE2; Tertiary sedimentary systems at either side of the S Atlantic; response to climate, river influx, etc.; transatlantic effects of desert phases in Africa; the effects of aeolian nutrient supply on marine and terrestrial eco- and sedimentary systems; contourite depositional systems; record of major paleoceanographic changes; interaction with turbidite systems; reservoir potential (I understand David Van Rooij has already, independently, submitted a proposal on this to IGC... can we incorporate this as a session within our symposium if he agrees?); cold water coral mounds.
