Symposium Details

Title Description Convenors
Interrelationship between Deformation and Metamorphism during Orogenesis The rapid growth of scientific research since the early 20th century has resulted in a significant degree of specialization that more than ever requires interdisciplinary collaboration. In the Earth Sciences, the plate tectonics paradigm provides the framework in which a multitude of geological processes that were formerly studied in isolation by different disciplines could be interrelated. The interrelationships between deformation processes and metamorphic mineral transformations are the primary focus of this Symposium. Young Geologists have worked toward integrating 3D microstructural analysis for the rock deformation and with techniques from thermobarometry and geochronology to date the successive fabrics trapped in deformed rocks and to determine the metamorphic conditions under which they formed. These approach has revealed new, high-resolution information about orogenic histories, though many researchers remain sceptical both of the methodologies and the conclusions. Representatives of Young Earth Scientists Network (YES) will be co-organizers of this symposium. Hui Cao, Ioan V. Sanislav, Afroz Ahmad Shah, Asghar Ali and Wang Meng
